You know, if you can bring up Charleston in a Columbia forum, I don't see a problem with bringing in Atlanta & Charlotte. In this market, I imagine the market may not support it or maybe that comes later. I think greenville would be better served if the tower had more floors to accomodate a larger workforce presence in downtown.

What would be feasible in the near term or long term for Main St? How would you connect Main with The Vista? How would you refurbish some of the historical storefronts on Main? Based on history, it seems as though you like bashing Columbia more than talking about development.Īs for One, it is a nice little project. But, perhaps instead of some silly sarcastic remark, you could provide some thoughts on what would work. Some people get carried away, I have seen this on Greenville boards as well (Haywood is like Lenox? Really? Greenville is a national foodie city?). However, you refuse to discuss things in other forums or threads for some reason. But, that has its place, and it's not in this thread. You seem to be the only one wrapped up in tower construction, and the only bent out of shape about this development. Why not argue for why Main Street is a good location NOW instead of posting an even sillier response?ĭon't bring up irrelevant comparisons to Greenville/Atlanta/Charlotte when no one else has mentioned their names. The fact is this: if anyone, even those who live in Columbia (but especially me because of my username), questioned the timing and location of an Apple location on MAIN STREET (not the metro area, bc that's now what I'm questioning), they'd be targeted with such responses. It doesn't matter if I had not been sarcastic in my response. There also needs to be constraint when saying "They'd be dumb not to." If you support that statement then say so that "Apple is off their rocker not to choose Main Street NOW" or "they're a terrible corporation to not invest in Main St instead of 5 points, the vista or a successful suburban mall". We can all be excited for the positive developments and changes, yes. However, there's also a realist side to me that understands the unlikeliness of this happening in the extreme near future. I find it entertaining that some people envision Apple opening on Main Street in a FEW MONTHS! I'm not talking about "some day", because I think it would be a great location. How hard is that to understand? If you don't like Columbia, don't worry so much about the city. Seriously, why do you write silly comments like this? Columbia & Greenville are developing in different ways.

And while you are at it, give away some more free retail space.

I am sure Atlanta & Charlotte are looking over their shoulder at Greenville's exploding skyline. Perhaps you can find more "special" financing to construct another 9 story building on Main St.
